Understanding Heart Health

What does heart health really mean? The health and function of your heart and vascular system are intricately tied to the health of your entire body. When your heart isn’t functioning properly, you may experience short- or long-term symptoms that include fatigue, anxiety, chest discomfort, or an irregular pulse. Heart problems can range from congenital defects in the structure of the heart to age or disease-related changes in the heart and its function. Your heart health is unique to you—learning more about your heart and how to manage its health will ensure you enjoy a long, healthy, and active lifestyle.

Heart Attack Care: A heart attack is a severe condition that occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked. Our Emergency Department and Accredited Chest Pain Center can deliver diagnosis and treatment of heart attacks at any stage to stabilize patient health quickly and effectively.

Diagnostic Services: The key to delivering effective treatment is an accurate diagnosis. Aventura Hospital & Medical Center is equipped to offer non-invasive diagnostic imaging and electrophysiology procedures to provide your physician with everything he needs to deliver top-quality heart care. We also offer nuclear imaging and cardiac stress testing to evaluate overall heart health and function for treatment plan development.

Cardiac Catheterization: Heart catheterization is a minimally invasive procedure that can be used to diagnose the cause of concerning symptoms. Cardiac catheterization may also include procedures such as angiography, coronary stenting, and atherectomies; catheterization can also be used to perform Structural Heart Intervention in patients for whom open-heart surgery is not recommended.

Cardiac Surgery: In some cases, surgical intervention is needed to repair the heart and restore healthy function. Heart conditions that may require surgery include heart valve defects and damage to or blockages in the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. Following surgery, monitoring and rehabilitation both during and after acute post-surgical recovery, ensure patient stability, comfort, and long-term health.
